![]() HERBALISMWhat is Herbalism?Herbal medicine is an ancient therapy found in many cultures worldwide. The National Institute of Medical Herbalists ('NIMH'), the principal professional body for Western tradition medical herbalists in the UK, was established in 1864 (under the name 'National Association of Medical Herbalists'). NIMH-registered medical herbalists train for at least three years, must have at least 500 hours of supervised clinical experience, receive botanical and medical training and must adhere to a strict code of conduct. Other well-established traditions of herbalism from other cultures include notably Indian (Ayurvedic) and Chinese herbalism. Herbal preparations may take various forms including pills or capsules containing dried herbs, tinctures or decoctions of herbs and creams and lotions. What conditions can be treated by Herbalism?Herbalism can be used to treat a very wide range of conditions. If in doubt please ask to speak to the herbalist to discuss whether your condition is appropriate for treatment. What is a Herbalism treatment like?The Initial Consultation will involve taking a detailed case history and during the Initial Consultation a Treatment Plan may be suggested and the likely timescale and cost indicated. Thereafter, herbal preparations (for internal or external application) will be recommended and provided and their use explained. |
